ER Episode 14 Season 4 “Family Practice”

This episode is filmed solely in San Diego where Dr. Greene is traveling to because his mother is sick and in the hospital.  This entire episode deals with how much his mother has changed since the last time he saw her.  Dr. Greenes relationship with his father is very strained and throughout the episode is very obvious.  One surprise for Dr. Greene was Cynthia Hooper shows up in San Diego and he seems pretty surprised and shocked.

When Dr. Greene first sees his mother in the hospital bed he is completely shocked at how much different she is.  She is slurring her words and is very erratic.  Throughout the episode Dr. Greene realizes that his mother is going downhill, and that him and his father probably will never mend their relationship.

Dr. Green has an argument with his father which lands his father in the hospital because of breathing complications.

Next, while in the Emergency Room with his father a trauma comes in and he notifies a Doctor that one of the trauma patients isnt breathing.  After this they ask Dr. Greene to help out and he does.  This is the first time Dr. Greenes father actually looks proud and impressed of his son, while he is in action on one of these patients.  This part of the episode was my favorite because you saw the pride that his father really had in him.

Finally, Dr. Greenes mother arrives home and is having difficulty around the house because of her lack of mobility.  The episode finishes off with showing how his mother looks like she is not going to get much better, and taking a walk with his father allows them to bond in a way they havent since Dr. Greene was a child.  So in the end the episode had both positive and negative points attached to it.  I rate this episode a 5 because of the different theme it had to it, which could havebeen boring, but by still incorporating a trauma scene even in a different hospital made it better.
